The short version: Retire Goals keeps your financial data on your device. There are no accounts, and we never see your goals, balances, or contributions. The only data that leaves your device relates to showing ads (Google AdMob), processing an optional in-app purchase, or an optional market-data lookup you enable yourself.
Everything you enter in Retire Goals — your name, age, retirement goals, balances, contributions, and preferences — is stored locally on your device. It is never transmitted to us or to any server we operate. We have no database, no analytics backend, and no way to access your information.
You can export all of your data as a JSON file (Settings → Export Data), as a CSV spreadsheet (Settings → Export Spreadsheet), and permanently erase it (Settings → Reset All Data) at any time. Deleting the app also deletes all locally stored data.
Projections, including the Monte Carlo success probability shown on each goal, are calculated entirely on your device. No figures are sent anywhere to produce them.
Retire Goals requires no sign-up, login, email address, or phone number.
The free version of Retire Goals shows ads through Google AdMob. Like all mobile ad networks, AdMob may collect certain data from your device in order to serve and measure ads:

The one-time Pro upgrade removes ads entirely — with ads gone, the ads SDK is not initialized and no advertising data is collected.
The optional "Retire Goals Pro" upgrade is a one-time purchase processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play — we never see your payment details. To recognize and restore your purchase across reinstalls, receipts are validated by RevenueCat using an anonymous identifier. This is purchase metadata only; it includes none of your financial planning data.
If you choose to add your own free Alpha Vantage API key in Settings, the app fetches S&P 500 quote data directly from Alpha Vantage. That request contains your API key and nothing about your goals or balances. Skip the key and no market-data requests are ever made.
Weekly reminders and milestone alerts are local notifications scheduled on your device. They involve no server and are entirely optional — the app only asks for notification permission when you turn a reminder on.
Retire Goals is a financial planning tool intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because your data lives only on your device, retention is fully in your control: it exists until you delete it (in-app reset or uninstalling the app). We retain nothing, because we collect nothing.
Access and portability are built in (Export Data), and erasure is built in (Reset All Data). For anything relating to advertising data, Google's privacy controls apply — you can reset your device's advertising ID in system settings, disallow tracking on iOS, and change consent choices via Ad Privacy Options. If we change this policy, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated date. Material changes (for example, adding any new third-party service) will be called out in the app's release notes.
